Odds and Ends: Sometimes you get
stuff you don't know what to do with!
While a small share of the marketplace, I identified that no one
was catering to the reenacting/living history chaplain role.
Because of this I began stocking these products to simplify this
interesting impression.
The Chaplain Corps in the US Army in WWII was more varied
than thought, and I decided to carry both the Christian and
Jewish chaplain items. Everyone thinks of the Christian
chaplain insignia as being the chaplain insignia, but this is not
correct. Jewish chaplain's insignia was added to the Army in
1918, thus predating WWII.
I have created several different options people wanting
chaplain gear, and they are divided between Christian and
Jewish Chaplain sections:
Christian Chaplain
Christian Chaplain Insignia: $10 This is the bright metal officer branch of
service cross insignia most commonly seen with chaplains.
Christian Chaplain Insignia Set: $25 This is a set of two crosses and one
either First Lieutenant, Captain, Major or Lieutenant Colonel insignia. This
is what is required for the shirt as well as overseas cap. Please specify
which rank when ordering.
Christian Chaplain Painted M-1 Steel Helmet: $80 This is a reenactor
grade helmet that has been painted with Christian Chaplain Insignia and an
officer's stripe on the rear. The steel pot and liner are post-war or NATO
type, with correct chin straps, and leather liner straps added. It looks like a
WWII helmet on the outside without the additional cost. It is topped off with
either a 3/4" khaki, 3/4" OD, 1/2" OD or 2" khaki net. Please specify net
type when ordering. Deduct $5 if no net is desired.
Jewish Chaplain
Jewish Chaplain Insignia: $10 This is the officer branch of service insignia
for the Jewish chaplain. The WWII insignias vary slightly with these in that
the numerals for WWII were Roman, and these are Hebrew. If you can find
one with the correct insignia, good luck! The difference is small and known
probably only by me and those who read this webpage.
